Christmas Lights Switch On
A crew of local volunteers put the finishing touches to the erection of the Christmas lights on the village streets last week. Esteemed local resident, M/s Noelle Harrington of Mill Street was selected to do the honours of officially turning on the lights at 6pm. Prior to that a group of singers under the direction of Sharon Crosbie entertained the large gathering with a selection of Christmas carols. The singing was interrupted by the sound of sirens from a coastguard jeep carrying Santa Clause. The children crowded around him as he talked to each child and gave them all some treats. The crowd then walked down to the Community Hall where a warm welcome was accorded to all by Tidy Towns chairperson, Marian O’Callaghan. Mulled wine, mince pies and all sorts of lovely cooked finger food was on offer as a generous thank you to the community who are always so supportive of Tidy Towns.
The Christmas raffle then took place and that aroused great excitement as the many hampers and other generous prizes were claimed by the lucky winners. Those who sponsored prizes were thanked for their generosity. A full list of all those who very generously donated prizes will be published in next week’s edition.
