Community Association AGM
Timoleague Community Association will hold its annual general meeting at Timoleague Community Hall on Tuesday, December 3rd at 8.30pm. An open invitation is extended to all to attend.
Carbery Hurlers
Members of the 1994 Carbery senior hurling team gathered at Charlie Madden’s Bar on Saturday evening last for a long overdue meet up. West-Cork hurling enthusiasts will recall with pride a glorious day on the 11th of September thirty years ago when Carbery defeated Midleton, 3-12 to 3-6 in the Cork Senior Hurling Final at Pairc Ui Chaoimh.Earlier in the campaign, the team overcame Ballyhea, 1-20 to 3-9 and Glen Rovers,1-13 to 2-8 before overcoming Na Piarsaigh in the semi-final, 3-14 to 2-13. Supporters will remember that Carbery were defeated in the final the previous year by St. Finbarr’s after a replay by a point. While many a team would be broken after such a painful defeat, this Carbery team was more determined than ever in 1994 and the players and management were on a mission to become the first Carbery team to win The Sean Og Murphy Cup.
There was much to celebrate and it was a lovely occasion for the players and selectors to gather together and recall that glorious campaign. After food, kindly prepared by Sheila and Simon Walton, the sliotar was thrown in and games were recalled, incidents highlighted and the real banter was entered into. An absent team mate, Micheal Holland of Kilbrittain was fondly remembered. The late “pocket rocket dynamo wearing number 5” was represented on the night by his wife, Geraldine. Present Carbery chairman, Aidan O’Rourke was also in attendance. Some hadn’t met with some time and all present remarked that nights like this are precious and as they left they vowed that another catch up should be organised in the near future. Cairbre Abu.
