Award For Educational Garden
Timoleague Educational Garden was nominated for The Mayor’s Community Awards a number of weeks ago by John Michael Foley MCC. Many individuals, community groups and organisations wereshowcased from the Western, Northern and Southern regions of the county and at the awards ceremony held at County Hall, Timoleague Educational Garden was among the prize winners. It was indeed a proud moment at the prizegiving ceremony as County Mayor, Joe Carroll, who has Clogagh connections did the honours with our local councillor chairing the ceremony. The educational garden has been an incredible success since its establishment and this is due in no small way to the great work of local community volunteers who have transformed a waste plot of ground into an “outdoor classroom” for Timoleague National School. It has become a social and educational hub, offering workshops on various topics and fostering integrational learning and community events.Present on the night to accept the award were Susan Jackson, Valerie Burns, Mo Tobin and Kevin Collins.

Streetscape and Public Places: “The streetscape was excellently presented on the day of ourvisit. The Franciscan Friary is a key landmark and tourist attraction. We commend yourefforts here in digitalising the tour booklet. We understand that you are planning on plantingsome trees in the Abbey car park as suggested by last year’s adjudicator. We enjoyed our visitto the Catholic Church. It provides a clear elevated view of the village. The Church ismaintained to a high standard and we are delighted to see that there is wheelchair access alsoavailable. The Anglican church is also impressive. We noted that you have built new toilets inthe Church grounds providing wheelchair access. We wish you well with the continuedconservation and works on the Church of the Ascension. The courthouse is also anotherimpressive heritage building. We saw that it was recently upgraded. We are pleased to learnthat they have opened a workshop space on the ground floor of this building. The plaque onthe wall is clear and presented to a quality standard. We noted the photo plaques of the oldrailway line and station added to the Railway Park. The railway park is a credit to you and wealso commend your efforts on making it wheelchair accessible. The streetscape is presentedto a high standard with many vibrant and freshly painted shopfronts and premises, e g AnDochtúir on Abbey Street. We appreciate that you are making continued efforts to address thederelict buildings in the village. We are glad that you have been contacted by the TownRegeneration office of Cork County Council with regard to vacant properties. We see thatyou are in the process of securing funding to build a new community hall. We wish you wellwith this project. The village has undergone new road surfacing on the remaining streets. Wesee that this has included traffic calming measures providing safety for pedestrians. We aredelighted to see bilingual signage throughout the village.”
