League Win
Castlemagner travelled to Lady's Well last Sunday morning to play round 2 of Division 7 of the county football league. In mild spring sunshine, the club's pitch committee had the playing surface in excellent condition and the new pitch markings added a professional touch. The north Cork men got a fisted goal with their first attack on the village end goal. Argideen settled and worked the new football rules of the "tap and go" to their favour to score goals from Dara Walsh, Charlie Twoomey and Sean Walsh. Darragh Holland and Joe Murphy were in control in midfield whilst Bill Fleming, Finbarr Butler and Matty Lawton picked up lots of breaks from kick outs and kept attacking towards the Clonakilty end goal. Some great pace in attack from Fergal Walsh, James Crowley and Adam Barry created more converted points to allow the home side lead by 3-12 to 1-02 at the break. It was always going to be difficult to maintain that tempo into a fresh second half breeze, but clever play from the full back line of Darragh O' Donovan, John Sheehan and Joe Crowley set up further attacking opportunities. In goals, Michael O' Callaghan adapted well to the new kick out rules and helped launch many attacks on the way to a 3-15 (3-0-15) to 1-7 (1-2-3) win. Team; Michael O' Callaghan, Darragh O' Donovan, John Sheehan, Joe Crowley, Finbarr Butler, Bill Fleming, Matty Lawton, Darragh Holland, Joe Murphy, Adam Barry, Fergal Walsh, Charlie Twoomey, Dara Walsh, Sean Walsh and James Crowley. Subs used; Michael Harte, Michael Murphy and Mark Henchion. Plenty of positives for the management as the 2025 JAFC championship round robin opponents (Kilmaceabea, Kilmeen and Randal Óg) were drawn last week. Next up is an away Division 6 hurling league game to Cloyne on Saturday 22nd at 3pm.
