Football V Urhan

April 14, 2025

Junior Football Win

Argideen Rangers continued their good league form with a hard fought 2-10 to 2-07 win over Urhan last Sunday morning at Lady's Well. The home side were playing against the elements, towards Clonakilty, in the first half. A well taken goal by Danny Lawton, superb shot stopping from John Michael O' Callaghan in goal, along with placed ball conversions from Darragh Holland and Bill Fleming were highlights of the opening half. A long and heavy hail shower made conditions even more challenging as the sides retired level (1-05 each) at the break. As the skies cleared and the sun brightened early in the second half, so did the fortunes of Timoleague. The half back line of Matty Lawton, Cathal O' Donovan and Bill Fleming surged forward at every opportunity. Joe Murphy and Andrew Guinivan were on top at midfield and Darragh Holland was the playmaker in chief. Darragh O' Donovan was having a great game at cornerback and the home side began to take control of the game with the aid of the stiff breeze. However, an Urhan goal, against the run of play, resulted in them leading by 2 points with ten minutes to go. A scoring blast of 1-3 in the space of 2 minutes won the game for the home side. First Fergal Walsh scored a booming 2 pointer to level proceedings. Next Danny Lawton nonchalantly slotted home his second goal, after a probing run by his brother Matty, and Seán Walsh quickly tapped over another point to increase the lead to 4 points. Team; John Michael O' Callaghan, Joe Crowley, John Sheehan, Darragh O' Donovan, Cathal O' Donovan, Bill Fleming, Matty Lawton, Joe Murphy, Andrew Guinivan, Darragh Holland, Fergal Walsh, Adam Barry, Sean Walsh, Jack Lawton and Danny Lawton. Subs used; Mark Henchion and David Deasy.

As the players switch to hurling preparation, last year's championship opponents await in the Red FM Hurling League Division 6 on Saturday 19th as Argideen travel to Glen Rovers for a 3pm game.
