Community notes May 10th

May 12, 2025

Bluebell Walking Week-End

The glorious sunshine brought the crowds flocking to Courtmacsherry and Timoleague for the annual guided walks organised by The Seven Heads Walks Committee on the May bank holiday week-end. All walkers were loud in their praise of the wonderful walks available which are now fully signed. A major innovation over the last few weeks has been the levelling and surfacing of the Fuchsia Walk by Tony O’Mahony Plant Hire. This project was spearheaded by the Seven Heads Walking Committee with assistance from The West Cork Development Partnership. This will enable walkers to enjoy this beautiful route all year round despite any adverse weather conditions.

Cork Minor Ladies Football

Aoife Sheehan played her part in Cork’s great win over Kerry in The Ladies Minor Football final on Saturday last making her parents and her grandparents from Maryborough extremely proud.

Cork Under 15 Camogie

Cliona Harte of Ardmore played at centre forward on the Cork under 16 camogie team that played Galway in the All-Ireland Final on Sunday afternoon last at Nowlan Park, Kilkenny. Alas, the team had to give way to a better Galway fifteen by 5-11 to 3-8. Cliona and her team have done exceptionally well all season and will no doubt bounce back better and more formidable next season.

Cork Under 15 Camogie

Ellen Foley of Mill Street was on the Cork under 15 camogie team that beat Tipperary on Saturday last. This competition is played in a round robin format and they play Galway in their next game on May 24th. She was joined on the team by her Barryroe team mate, Mairead Whelton.

Dawn Chorus

A fundraiser for Pieta House will take place at The West Cork Secret Garden, Eircode P72 EE97 on Saturday, May 10th. at 4.30am. Why not welcome the dawn around the bonfire followed by a woodland stroll to hear the dawn chorus. Tea and scones will be available at The Secret Café and the event is open to all age groups. If the dawn time is unappealing, The Timoleague Educational Garden will also be open during the day where you can enjoy a cuppa and some treats and donations will also be accepted for Pieta House.
