Community notes June 21st

June 22, 2025

Corpus Christi Procession

The annual Corpus Christi Procession will take place after the 11.30am mass in Timoleague on Sunday next, June 22nd. The procession will leave the church grounds and make its way down Chapel Hill. It will then go over Mill Street, pausing at St. Patrick’s Grotto before making its way down Mill Hill. It will then proceed along School Road before turning up Abbey Street. On arrival at The Cross at the village centre, it will make the last leg of the journey along Main Street, finishing at The Grotto at the church steps. Benediction will then take place in front of The Grotto of Our Lady.

The procession usually generates a lot of interest and curiosity among tourists and visitors. This religious tradition is proudly continued each year with the help of many people and residents of the village decorate their homes and shop fronts especially for the occasion.

Masses For The Dead

Mass will be celebrated in The Church of the Nativity of The Blessed Virgin Mary, Timoleague for those buried in the parish on Friday, July 4th. at 7.30pm. After mass prayers will be said in The Abbey Graveyard and in St. Molaga’s Cemetery.

Mike Denver at Timoleague

It is hard to believe that Timoleague Harvest Festival is just around the corner. There will be a concert featuring Mike Denver at Timoleague Parish Church on Thursday night, August 21st. Tickets will go on sale in July at a date to be announced.

Graveyard Meitheal

A gathering for a meitheal will take place at St. Molaga’s Graveyard on Tuesday night week, June 24th. beginning at 7pm. Volunteers are asked to bring along garden tools to help give the graveyard a well overdue facelift as it has been neglected for some time.

Grant Funding

A number of local organisations have benefited from grant funding allocated to projects in the Bandon-Kinsale Municipal Area under The Local Enhancement Programme. Timoleague Educational Garden received €3,728 and Molaga Tidy Towns were awarded €2,971. Both organisations are doing exceptional work and are enhancing the community greatly. The Educational Garden since its establishment has gone from strength to strength and its members have to be commended for their outstanding work in making it such a welcoming focal point near the water’s edge. The local tidy towns group has been in existence for quite some time and of late has come to national prominence due to its continued work in making Timoleague an award winner in the National Tidy Towns Competition. No doubt, both organisations will put this grant money to good use for the betterment of all.
