Aoife Harte, captain of the victorious Cork All-Ireland Ladies Under 14 Football team was the recipient of a West-Cork Youth Sports Star Award at the Celtic Ross Hotel, last week. Aoife was accompanied at the award ceremony by her proud parents, Emer and Liam together with her sisters Cliona and Isobel and her brother Daniel. Aoife is wished well in her future sporting career and this award is richly deserved by the talented sporting young lady from Ardmore.
Eucharistic Procession
Everything was in order for the annual Corpus Christi Procession which was held at Timoleague on Sunday last after the 11.30am mass. The Lord was in generous mood with the weather as the rain which hung in some of the clouds was kept at bay during the event. A big thank you to the many people who were responsible for organising the event. This year marked the 25th. anniversary of the procession through the streets of the village. Back in 2000, the then parish priest of Timoleague, Rev. Fr. James Coombes initiated the idea of the procession. However, Fr. Coombes became ill and the host was carried by Rev. Fr. Fachtna Staunton MHM who was home on holidays from Africa. The village streets were looking wonderful and householders and business owners are especially thanked for their contribution. Keen observers of the event were all in agreement that the numbers who participated was up this year in comparison to former years. Afterwards all went back to The Canon Fleming Hall for refreshments and a chat, emphasising that ecumenism and community are synonymous with everyday life in the little hamlet. Here’s to the next 25.
