All-Ireland Disappointment
There was much disappointment following Cork’s defeat by Tipperary in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Final in Croke Park on Sunday last. The week began with many club members failing to get tickets for the game. The request for tickets greatly exceeded the allocation that clubs received. It has to be remembered that the number of clubs in Cork greatly exceeds that of any of the other thirty-one counties. Club officers who take on officership, do so on a voluntary basis, often times being selected when no one else is willing to do the job. Leading up to an All-Ireland final with Cork involved, there is an added burden attached to the role with officers unable to perform a miracle as the Good Lord did with the loaves and fishes. Allowing for the disappointment of not securing a much sought after ticket for the game, those who did and were in attendance left the stadium down-hearted also as Cork failed to reproduce the form of the opening half and with Tipperary in the ascendancy after that, there was only going to be one winner. The famine continues unfortunately, but we have to keep the faith, no matter how difficult that may be. Beidh la eile.
Graveyard Plaques:
Local graveyards at Abbeymahon, Timoleague Abbey, St. Molaga’s and Clogagh have now been surveyed and a coded record of all those interred has been catalogued. Colourful plaques have been erected at the entrance of each graveyard which makes it very easy for the general public to locate the final resting place of those interred. There is a QR Code on the plaque which can be scanned by your phone to view the cemetery map on line. This project undertaken by a dedicated local committee under the watchful eye of Fr. Patrick Hickey PP are to be thanked for this onerous undertaking which has received widespread praise.
