Successful Festival
The 2025 Timoleague Festival came to an end on Monday night with The Children’s Fancy Dress Parade. The weather was kind for this popular event and the large crowd who viewed it were not disappointed by the standard and variety of entry. Speaking of weather, the sun shone on the village for the duration of the festival and no doubt was a major contributor to its outstanding success. Coupled with the weather, the organising committee had a full programme of events on offer suitable for all age groups. A festival such as this doesn’t just happen. It requires many months of planning with endless meetings where ideas and proposals are discussed and debated. Of course, there is a greater core group who volunteer for duty during the week to ensure that everything runs smoothly and efficiently. If one looks at the programme, one can only marvel at the vast list of sponsors who support the festival so generously. On opening night, the word “community” was mentioned more than once. How else could an event such as the Timoleague Harvest Festival continue and grow since it first saw the light of day back in 1973 without the involvement and good will of all the community. A big “thank you” to the vast numbers who attended during the week and to the countless community helpers who gave of their time so that Timoleague was a destination of choice for so many. Long may it continue.
Festival Raffle Results
Each year during the festival the committee run a raffle with proceeds going to the festival. The organisers are most grateful to all the sponsors and ticket sellers who give so generously to the raffle. The draw was held on Monday night and the following are the results:
1st. Damien Mc Carthy, Ballinascarthy. 2nd. Miriam Butler, Timoleague. 3rd. Eabha O’Leary, Rathbarry. 4th. Kevin Collins & Family. 5th. Faith O’Leary, Tiernanean. 6th. Brian O’Dwyer.
Camogie
Local girl, Ellen Foley of Mill Street was on the Cork under 15 camogie team that played Galway in the All-Ireland Blitz Final at Cahir on Saturday last. However, the Cork girls had to give way to a better Galway team on the day just like the seniors had to do a few weeks before.
Rugby Success
Just to emphasise the diversity of sport played by our local young boys and girls, Julie Cunningham of Ballincoursey was a member of the Munster under 17 rugby team that beat Leinster at The Aviva Stadium recently. Any victory against Leinster especially in their home turf is especially pleasing. Julie is a member of the Clonakilty rugby club and also plays for Ibane Ladies. This talented young lady is wished well in her future sporting career.
