Timoleague Community and Argideen Rangers Fundraiser:

Both organisations are joining up for a joint fundraiser which will take place on Sunday, October 12th. Argideen Rangers GAA are most grateful to the Timoleague Community Association and the Festival Committee for their ongoing support towards the up-grade of the Ball Alley, a vital amenity for GAA members, Timoleague National School and for those in the wider Timoleague area. The investment from The Timoleague Community Association is substantial and the club will join with the community in this fundraising event to help with the next phase of the ball alley development which is the laying of a modern, new floor. Flashing lights are also to be erected, in the interest of health and safety on the road beside Our Lady’s Well Community Sports Complex. Both projects are supported by Cork County council which is greatly appreciated.

The fundraising will consist of a coffee morning and a 5km.walk/fun run on Sunday October 12th. Family entry will be €20 and individual entry will cost €10. This is an important event and the general public are asked to support this initiative which will benefit the local community for generations to come. Whether you walk, run or simply come along for a chat and a cuppa, support will be very much appreciated.

National Ploughing Championships:

The ever-popular ploughing championships took place last week. An exodus of local followers made the annual pilgrimage to the even and once again they were not disappointed. Local interest centred on Claire O’Rourke of Lettercollum. During the local ploughing events, she decided to try her hand at the horse ploughing event. Claire, being an expert horsewoman was assisted in her preparations by local enthusiasts who secured specialist horses and a plough for her to compete in the ancient art. She and two other female competitors, Caroline O’Driscoll and Sead Ni Mhaoilmhia participated in their first national championships and now that they have got a gra for the event, they have promised that they will be back for more next season. God speed the plough!

Ibane Gaels:

The U18 Ibane Gaels players are approaching the business end of both of their football and hurling championships. Last week the footballers were beaten 2-14 to St Finbarr’s 3-15 in the Premier 2 county semi-final. They can hold their heads high after a thrilling comeback that just fell short. By the time you read these notes, they will have played Bandon in the Premier 2 hurling county semi-final.
