Farmers Outing
Timoleague Young Farmers, the name by which the long-standing organisation is fondly known locally, held its annual outing on Tuesday last. The weather behaved itself as the group met to board the bus by the waters edge. Timoleague looked resplendent at 9.30am and it was no surprise that it was again among the gold medal winners at this year’s Tidy Towns Competition. First stop was The Mills at Ballyvourney for morning refreshments and it was then across the County Bounds to Kilgarvan to visit a vintage car museum. This was a fascinating experience and the majority of the exhibits were road worthy and were in pristine condition – no doubt a labour of love for the enthusiastic owner. The next port of call was a visit to a private bridge over the motorway outside Ballyvourney. This was constructed to link farm land on opposite sides of the busy motorway and the story associated with its construction told by the owner was fascinating as was the magnificent view of the surrounding countryside from its elevated position. A visit to The Top of Coom for liquid refreshments was called for at this stage and the history of this bar – the highest in Ireland was also captivating. Dinner at Mai Fitz’s in Lissarda was most welcome later in the evening before the bus returned to base for a last round up. Roll on 2026!
Tidy Towns Success
Timoleague retained its gold medal at this year’s Tidy Towns Awards Ceremony at Croke Park of Friday last making it three in a row This was a vote of confidence to the hard-working local committee along with the large cohort of community activists who pull out all the stops to showcase our dear little hamlet. This year Timoleague received 398 marks, an increase of 15 from last year which was a remarkable achievement. In order to put it in context to really appreciate its significance, Timoleague is but one mark behind Rosscarbery, who were crowned Ireland’s Best Village. The overall winner of this year’s award, Carrig-on-Shannon are two marks ahead of Timoleague which gives an indication of the remarkable strides that Timoleague has made in the competition. Three members of Timoleague Tidy Towns, Marian O’Callaghan, Mary Crowley and Marie Mc Carthy made the journey to Croke Park and were given a hero’s welcome at the village centre on Friday night on their return. A bon-fire blazed and a festive atmosphere prevailed to herald the good news. Community chairman, John Walsh and Tidy Towns chairperson, Marian O’Callaghan addressed the gathering and were loud in their praise of the great community effort involved. Over the coming months, segments of the adjudicator’s report will be included in the notes.

Ibane Ladies Success
A big congratulations to the Ibane Ladies who won the West-Cork Minor League final defeating Courcey Rovers, 3-8 to 0-7. Hannah Twomey was awarded the player of the match award after giving an outstanding display. Playing against the wind in the opening half they trailed 0-7 to 0-1 at half time. They soon made use of the breeze in the second half and finished strongly.
