Basking Sharks, Whales and Dolphins
There will be a talk on basking sharks, whales and dolphins that frequent the West-Cork coast on Thursday, November 20th. The venue will be The Timoleague Community Educational Garden beginning at 7.30pm. The presenter will be Denis O’Regan and all ages are most welcome.
High Tides
Very high tides were experienced in Timoleague last week. The full moon together with prevailing wind caused flooding in the usual places. The Courtmacsherry Road, the Kinsale Road by the Rushy Point and the road beside The Abbey were particularly affected for some hours, necessitating drivers to make the usual detours. Thankfully no damage was reported.
Remember Me Ceremony
The annual November Remember Me Ceremony will be held at Clogagh Church on Sunday next, November 16th beginning at 7pm. This moving ceremony commemorates those who have died over the past year in the parish and those who have been connected in some way with parish life in Timoleague and Clogagh.
Tidy Towns – Adjudicator’s Report
This is the first segment of the adjudicator’s report of Timoleague village. “Thank you for participating In Ireland’s longest-running environmental project and helping to make Ireland a better place. We really appreciate all the great work that you do and the effort you put in, year on year. Thank you for your entry form and accompanying map. Both were very useful for the adjudication. You put a lot of time in making your entry so detailed and colourful, so thank you for that. Please take note of what is applicable in each category, however there was some repetition and duplication within your entry.
You are right to be proud of your great performance in Tidy Towns of late. You have an exceptionally large volunteer team and great support from your local community. This includes local businesses and the National School. Your Key Project this year is the digitising of the self-guided tour of Timoleague Friary. You have been involved in the competition for around 62 years and that is amazing commitment. We are delighted that the competition has been so beneficial for the village of Timoleague and we look forward to having you in the competition for many years to come”.
