Tidy Towns Celebration
Timoleague Tidy Towns celebrated in style on Sunday evening last. Local singers under the direction of Sharon Crosbie and Michael Heaney gathered at the village centre beside the Christmas tree with parents and their children assembling to enjoy the rendition of Christmas carols as they patiently awaited the arrival of Santa. At six o’clock a flair was seen shooting through the night sky heralding the arrival of the guest of honour. An Irish Coast Guard jeep driven by Noel O’Sullivan with flashing lights and sirens blaring transported the man himself to “the cross” As Santa mingled among his awe-struck admirers distributing goodies and posing for photographs, the official switch on of the Christmas Lights was performed by Aoife Harte and Niamh Doyle, star members of the All-Ireland Cork winning under 14A team of 2025 under the watchful eye of coach Mary Harrington.
Santa like the pied piper of old, walked down Abbey Street to The Community Hall followed by his besotted followers. Timoleague Tidy Towns committee hosted their annual Christmas Party in celebration of their recent success in the national competition. The draw for a bumper number of prizes including hampers and vouchers was held. The committee would like to thank the countless number of people who sponsored the vast array of very generous prizes on offer. The night was a festive occasion where the community gathered together to celebrate the gold medal win. It was Timoleague Tidy Towns turn to say “thank you” to the community for all their help throughout the year without which Timoleague would not be but one mark away for being judged Ireland’s Tidiest village. Here’s to one big push to reach the summit.
Christmas Carol Service
A Chrisrmas Carol Service will be held at The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Timoleague on Sunday next, December 14th. beginning at 7pm. The parish choirs in addition to the children from Timoleague and Clogagh National Schools will be central to this now annual festive event.
Erection of Christmas Lights
The official switch on of the Christmas lights took place on Sunday evening last. However, quite a lot of work is done prior to that. This is where the great community spirit so evident in Timoleague kicks in. A small army of dedicated local volunteers see to it that the job is done as they work tirelessly sometimes in cold, wet miserable conditions so that locals and visitors alike, can enjoy the Christmas ambience as they walk or drive through the village streets. Thank you, lads for your dedication to the cause.
