Ireland Lights Up
Argideen Rangers GAA Club are delighted to participate in the Ireland Lights Up campaign once again and it starts on Tuesday 13th January at 7.00pm. Last winter, up to one hundred people took part in the newly opened walk around the perimeter of the GAA grounds. It was a resounding success with all age groups participating. Many people kept up the regular routine in 2025, with the safe walkway being illuminated every night. We in Timoleague are very fortunate that we have access to many beautiful walks in our locality and the enclosed walk at the pitch is another to add to that impressive list. Everyone is welcome to join us at the Timoleague Community Grounds (Eircode P72 P962). Helmets are recommended for children playing hurling.
Timoleague Educational Garden:
On Thursday January 15th. there will be a talk on Ireland’s bats and their protection at The Timoleague Educational Garden (P72DX23). The talk will be given by Vicky Knight, a wildlife conservationist who is based in Courtmacsherry. Vicky works for the Vincent Wildlife Trust which helps to protect Ireland’s rarest bats including the Lesser Horseshoe. The talk begins at 7.30pm and children are most welcome. A €5 donation would be appreciated.
Tidy Towns Results:
Further extract from the 2025 Tidy Towns Report:
“Among your new projects in this category are landscaping and planting within the green space above the public toilets. This was one of the first places we visited and we spent lots of time admiring the beautiful work that has been done here. Not far away is The Green Park and this is another area that has benefited from your attentions. This has been completely revamped since our last visit and looks great. Recent tree planting was noted here. New landscaping has begun in the church grounds. The Railway Park was new to this adjudicator and was a very pleasant surprise. This is really well done, cleverly using railway sleepers as sign uprights with very sheltered and comfortable benches. There is great colour in the borders and the rose trees are very elegant too. The grounds of The Anglican Church are very well kept and Valerian and Lavender add colour here. The Yew trees were admired too”.
