Tidy Towns Report

Tidiness and Litter Control: Your efforts undr this heading included weed control, attending to the re-cycling area and using your new leaf blower. We are delighted we saw numerous tidy towns volunteers out on the evening of adjudication, some weeding and one involved in the creation of a new flowerbed. Well done on your participation in the county Anti-Litter Challenge and please saw congratulations to the school children for their work on the picker pals and on their latest Green Flag award.

Your old telephone box is now a display case for an antique telephone, very clever. The agricultural machinery display was beautifully presented. Directional signage for the looped walks was in good condition. The various information signs (e.g. at The Railway Park, The Argideen Valley Trail) were all in good order.

Residential Streets and Housing Areas:  Your street layout is distinctive and evocative of a medieval village. Your public community areas are kept to a very high standard. Fair play to all the residence of Main Street who create and tend the lovely window boxes. The colour scheme of the houses was admired too. The colours of Mill Street were also admired. Mill Hill is a very nice terrace. A really good bit of wok has been done on the shed at the end of the hill here and there is a lovely mural too.

Ploughing Match

Timoleague ploughing match was a casualty of the bad weather on Sunday last. While the day itself was fine, the rain that fell during the days previous, made ground conditions very unsuitable for turning the sod, hence its postponement. The organising committee now hope to reschedule the event for Sunday, February 8th.

Munster Final Success for Cliona

Cork defeated Limerick in The Munster Minor Camogie Final at Templeglantine, Co. Limerick on Saturday last. This was a thrilling game from start to finish with Cork coming out on top, away from home, 2-9 to 0-14. Playing a central role in this great victory was Cliona Harte of Ardmore. Cliona who plays camogie with the Barryroe club, was the sole West-Cork representative on the team. Cliona and the team are wished well in the All-Ireland series.
