Tidy Towns Report
Approach Roads, Streets and Lanes:you now have welcome signs on all four of the Timoleague approach roads and that’s great. You are very fortunate in having such a stunning approach to your village with the estuary and Friary making this a truly unique vista. There is a very nice and natural approach on the back road from Clonakilty. This area arounf the name sign is well-kept. Three empty signposts were noted but these may be awaiting new signage. The railway road out to Courtmacsherry is an excellent route for walkers and runners and was much in use on the evening of out visit. Your bespoke directional signs are really nice. The name sign and planting near the old telephone box look great. Main Street looks even better than this adjudicator had remembered it. Pavement areas were all swept and litter free. The road sign for Courtmacsherry (R601) is in need of work.
Second Round Adjudication: It was a pleasure to visit Timoleague for the second-round adjudication. The pride you take in your village is clearly reflected in the standard of presentation across all areas. Your approach to the competition continues to be well organised, inclusive and strongly supported by the wider community. Your weekly clean ups by your committee members and additional volunteers, including the local National School demonstrates a strong community spirit. You also do a great job of keeping everyoneinformed and involved through the use of What’s App, social media, updated in The Southern Star, and Church announcements. After 62 years of participation in this competition, it is verty clear that it has brought a lasting sense of pride and has provided valuable funding for future improvements within your community. The launch of your digital self-guided QR tour of Timoleague Friary is an excellent way to share your rich heritage with visitors. I was also very happy to see the new “Village Vista” sign at the Catholic Church, which was beautifully painted by a local Ukrainian resident and the great improvement made to the collapsed wall near St. Molaga’s burial ground. The playground is now universally accessible and recently upgraded through CLAR funding. You might consider providing a Disabled Parking Bay in the car-park beside the playground.
Table Quiz
The Educational Garden, Timoleague will hold their fundraising quiz on Thursday, February 12th. at Charlie Madden’s Bar. It begins at 7pm.
