Donation to Cancer Connect:
A huge thank you to everyone who supported The Argideen Poc Fada fundraiser for Cancer
Connect. The club was delighted to welcome Helen O’Driscoll and Sinéad Crowley from the
organisation during the past week when a cheque for €2,120 was presented. This generous
donation was made possible by the success of the club’s poc fada over the Christmas period.
It was especially meaningful to have three local volunteers present on the day, Diana Walsh,
Liam Barry, and John Barry.
The club is so proud to be able to give to this incredible charity. Cancer Connect has become
a vital lifeline for those who need help travelling to and from hospital for cancer treatment,
and the impact of their work is felt in every corner of our community.
Thank you to all our members and their friends who gave generously to this cause.
Fas Worker Retires:
Timoleague Tidy Towns most trusted and loyal worker, Ned Long has retired. Ned has been a
Fas sponsored worker in Timoleague for many years and was a constant sight in and around
the village as well as on its approach roads. He was probably most visible on the
Courtmacsherry Road on the ride-on lawnmower as he tended so meticulously to the grass
area beside the ever- popular Estuary Walkway. No job was too big or too small for Ned and
he never needed to be told what was the next job that warranted attention. He had a pride in
his work and played no small part in Timoleague’s steady increase in marks in the National
Tidy Towns Competition.
A farewell function was held in Charlie Madden’s Bar on Wednesday night last to mark his
retirement. The officers of the local Tidy Towns committee as well as the many friends of
Timoleague Tidy Towns were present to mark the occasion. Chairperson, Marian
O’Callaghan thanked Ned for his magnificent contribution to the Tidy Towns since he started.
She added that the village and its surrounds were a credit to him. She wished him well in his
retirement and presented him with a gift as a token of appreciation from all present. His wife
Ann was not forgotten either, as she was the recipient of a beautiful bouquet of flowers. Ned’s
replacement, Pat Whelton was also present. Hosts, Simon and Sheila were also thanked for
the excellent cuisine on offer on the night.
Rugby League Winners:
Timoleague girls, Laura Sexton, Julie Cunningham, Sinead O’Callaghan and Seodhna Walsh
played reading roles in Clonakilty RFC win in the under 18 and a half Munster League Final
on Sunday last. Looking at the names, it is clear to be seen that the young ladies are equally
talented in more than one sport. Congratulations girls.
Rebel's Bounty:
The Cork County GAA Board draw has been a resounding fundraising success over the last
couple of years. Tickets for the 2026 "Rebels' Bounty Draw" are now on sale. Argideen
Rangers are appealing to club members to continue to support this draw as the club has a
minimum sales quota to reach, with 100% commission returning back to the club after
reaching the quota. There are great prizes to be won and draws take place each month with
annual prizes of up to €500,000. There are payment options available for the €100 ticket on
the Rebel's Bounty website. Please be sure to select your club as Argideen Rangers when
entering the draw. Rebels Bounty tickets can be purchased
from www.gaacork.ie/rebelsbounty or from any club officer.
Hemingways Bar:
Main Street, Timoleague was closed off on Monday last from 4pm to 4am. It was used as
location for the shooting of a film called Hemingway’s Bar. A number of locals were on
traffic stewarding duty as things hotted up in Main Street. On Tuesday the action will switch
to Mill Street and the street will be closed off from 4pm to 4am to facilitate shooting of some
more scenes. Nothing like a bit of excitement to banish away February blues!
