Seven Heads Walks Launch
Much work has been done to achieve official sanction for The Seven Heads Walks. All is now in readiness for an official launch after all the walks were deemed in compliance of strict guidelines after a recent inspection. Local Minister of State, Christopher O’Sullivan will do the honours at Butlerstown on Sunday, May 2nd at 3pm. An open invitation is extended to all to attend.
Anti-Litter Competition
The anti-litter challenge organised by Cork County Council will take place in May. The judging will be confined to three periods. The first judging will be done between April 27th to May 1st. The next judging will take place from May 11th to May 15th. with the final adjudication between May 25th. and May 29th. Residents are asked to keep an eye out for all litter that may be in need to be disposed of. A great community effort was witnessed for the Big Spring Clean a few weeks ago and no doubt locals will not be found wanting on this occasion either so that Timoleague will be looking its best as The National Tidy Towns adjudication looms within the next few months.
Photographic Win
Mention of the Spring Clean Up brings good news to Timoleague Tidy Towns. As part of the initiative, the sponsors, KWD organised a photographic competition of all the clean up’s in West-Cork. It is pleasing to announce that a photograph taken at The Timoleague Clean-Up was adjudged the winner.Local activist, Mary Deasy of Burrane who is a great supporter of Tidy Towns was happily doing her volunteering along the outskirts of the village when she was photographed attending to her duty. Mary is a woman who doesn’t normally shun the limelight but this time she was caught slightly off-guard. The message on view captures the occasion. Congratulations Mary.
Timoleague History Society
A lecture on The Battle of Jutland, the largest naval battle during The First World War will be delivered by Tony Mc Carthy at Timoleague Community Hall on Thursday night, April 23rd at 7.30pm. Many West-Cork sailors including seven from Barryroe and Timoleague area lost their lives during the battle which took place on May 31st. 1916. Tony has developed a keen interest in this naval encounter as some of those who perished were neighbours of his grandfather’s at Lehina.

Munster and Ben O’Donovan win at Benetton
Ben O’Donovan was on the Munster match day squad on Saturday last as they bounced back to form with a 45-15 win in Italy. Ben recently signed for Munster and his Timoleague lineage from his father’s side is a fascinating story in itself. A chance meeting with a Timoleague couple at a Greymouth hotel in New Zealand’s South Island a good few years ago rekindled a connection with Timoleague that went back a few generations. A more detailed account of the O’Donovan -Timoleague story will feature in next week’s edition.
