Timoleague NS Celebration Day
The Timoleague school community gathered together for their 2026 School Celebration Day on Friday last to shine a spotlight on the unique talents, growth, and achievements of each and every student. While the unpredictable weather meant moving the usual outdoor festivities into the school hall, the change of scenery certainly didn't dampen the experience.
Whether stepping up in the classroom, showcasing creativity, giving their all in sports, or simply brightening the school with acts of kindness, the pupils have given everyone so much to be proud of this year.
An event like this highlights the incredible strength of the local school community. The Community Hall was full to capacity with proud parents and grandparents. Such was the vast crowd present at 10.00am, one bright spark remarked, “does anyone work during the day in Timoleague anymore?” The answer to that question is a resounding “yes”. The parents of the students attending the school place a very high value on their children’s education. This has always been the case in Timoleague and long may it continue. The principal Master Lynch who also double jobbed as master of ceremonies extended thanks to the parents and guardians for their unwavering support and that their partnership with the school makes all the difference. Sincere thanks was also expressed to the Parents’ Association for their wonderful contributions throughout the year and to today's event, and to the dedicated teachers and staff whose care ensures that the school remains such a nurturing place to learn.
Most of all, he extended a massive congratulations to the amazing pupils. He concluded by remarking“your enthusiasm, hard work, and kind spirit shine through in everything you do, and you are an absolute credit to our school”.
When all the awards were presented, everyone was treated to beautiful refreshments, courtesy of the Parents’ Association.
Tidy Towns
A huge combined effort was clearly visible over the past few weeks as Tidy Towns members were joined by all the local clubs in a final effort to have everything in readiness for this year’s adjudication. One never knows when the judging takes place as the adjudicators are most discreet and mingle seamlessly among the locals and visitors alike when doing their job.
The village looks so well and a special thank you to the volunteers who had paint brushes and rollers in hand last week. The fruit of your work is plain to be seen. The litter pickers who go quietly about their work in the early hours are also due our sincere thanks. It should also be noted that many of the volunteers don’t live in the village. That emphasises the fantastic good will that exists in our community and long may it continue.
I have often mentioned in these notes that we in Timoleague live in a great community. The work done over the past few weeks reinforces that viewpoint. There are no degrees or interviews to be negotiated to work as a volunteer. It’s done for the sake of the little village and its inhabitants. Timoleague belongs to us all and we have a duty of care to further enhance the village and hand it on to the next generation better and nicer than it was before. That wise old Chinese philosopher, Confucius was right when he proclaimed in the distant past that many hands make light work. In recognitionof the good news received in Timoleague from China of late, would it be prudent as a gesture of appreciation to introduce Chinese Studies into the curriculum of our local academy?
