Fit-Up Theatre
The Fit-Up Theatre Company will gave their final Timoleague Summer performance on Thursday, July 30th at Timoleague Community Hall. Guna Nua Theatre presents Synapses, a play about love, memory and the romance of parenting. This fast-paced comedy drama features two young parents who mine the past for the key to the future. The two main characters, Mike and Emily, separated a year ago and constantly row about money, access and parenting styles. This honest and open play will leave you feeling that you have stepped inside Mike and Emily’s lives.
Tickets can be purchased at the door and the curtain goes up at 8pm sharp.
GAA Lottery Draw
There was no winner of the Argideen Rangers GAA lottery jackpot of €14,900 last weekend. The numbers drawn were 1, 8, 12, and 23. Lucky dip winners of €30 each included; Sean & Fergal Walsh, Ahamonister, Ann Glennon, c/o Barber Shop, Main St, Cathal Sexton c/o Sexton's Caravan and Camping and Darragh Clifford, c/o Bingo. Next week’s draw with a jackpot of €15,000 will be held at Charlie Madden's Bar on Sunday July 26th. Tickets at €2 each or 3 for €5 can be bought at Foley’s Centra, Pad Joe’s Bar, Monk’s Lane, Charlie Madden’s Bar, The Brewery Bar or from any club officer. Supporters of the draw are also asked to avail of modern technology by using the club’s online link by visiting www.clubspot.ie where one can avail of the user-friendly website. Kilshinehan Mass Rock
Mass will be celebrated at Kilshinihan Mass-Rock on Monday, July27th at 7.30pm. This ceremony at the ancient mass-rock is being organised by Kilbrittain Parish Assembly and all are welcome. There are many mass-rocks throughout Ireland and are generally to be found in hidden, isolated locations usually with high ground nearby where a look-out would be in place to warn of the advance of the enemy. These sacred places were where our ancestors gathered in secret to attend mass and practice their faith when it was not safe to do so. One doesn’t have to be reminded that Timoleague Abbey was sacked and burned in 1642. The Christians in Rome were forced to practice their religion in secret in The Catacombs and examples of Christian communities doing likewise is common practice in many places throughout the world today.
Catwalk Extravaganza
A CatwalkExtravaganza will take place at DarraraAgricultural Conference Centre (P85AX52) on Friday, August 7th. at 7pm. with Siobhan O’Mahony as MC. This gala event is being organised by a sub committee of Timoleague Harvest Festival and the proceeds will go to Cancer Connect and Timoleague Harvest Festival. People fondly remember similar events staged in The Dome some years ago and they are still talked about. This eagerly awaited Catwalk Extravaganza will feature a cheese and wine reception, an exciting array of trade stalls, local fashion retailers and glam guidelines and insider style hacks. Cork Success
While the Cork senior hurlers and footballers may not be basking in the limelight at present it is gratifying to note that some local sports stars are doing their bit to rectify that situation. Aoife Harte was a member of the Cork under 15 camogie team that won the Division 1 of The National League on Sunday last. They defeated Dublin in the final. Aoife was joined on the team by her club mates, Kate Collins and Megan O’Regan. Cork also fielded a second team in this competition and Niamh Doyle was on this team that won the division 2 title beating Kilkenny in the final. Meanwhile at Borrisoleigh, Co Tipperary, Nyah Burns was on the Cork under 14 camogie team that won the Munster Blitz competition also on Sunday. Not a bad day’s work by any standard. Well done girls.
Duck Race
All ducks purchased so far are being put through their paces over the past few weeks by their owners as everyone strives to have their duck in peak condition to win the top prize. The race will take place on Saturday next, July 25th. at 4pm. The course will be the same as in former years with the start just above The Bandon Bridge as you enter the village. The finish line will be on The Waterfront by The Abbey. There are a limited number of ducks still available and they can be purchased at one of the business houses in the village. Ducks will also be on offer at The Waterfront on Saturday next prior to the big race. All owners are wished the best of luck in the race.
