Festival Concludes

The 2026 Timoleague Harvest Festival came to a close on Monday night last when Mc Fadden’s Amusements closed down shop at The Green after ten days of non-stop action that captivated the minds and bodies of the young brigade. Monday night’s closure came as a relief also to many parents who may not have zips in their pockets!

On Sunday night the Children’s Fancy Dress parade took place through the streets and all were in agreement that it was the best entry in many years. Both children and parents were showered with praise and compliments by the large crowd in attendance. Prior to the fancy dress the Timoleague Ukulele Strummers and Friends entertained the crowd at the village centre and captivated the large attendance with a vast selection of popular songs that endeared them to the masses. Earlier in the day at Abbey Street there was a huge collection of vintage, classic and modified cars and bikes on display.The event was in aid of Mental Health in Adolescence and Timoleague Community First Responders. In the afternoon the ever-popular dog show, featuring The Eileen Kearney Memorial Cup was held at The Railway Park.

Pat Fitz played on the street on Saturday night and he never fails to disappoint, always attracting a record crowd. Earlier in the evening, crowds gathered at The Time Line at Main Street to attend Timoleague Historical Society’s presentation of life in the village 100 years ago as outlined by the recently published 1926 census report. Chairperson, Joe Murphy introduced the event and Edward Mc Sweeney delved into the lives of the inhabitants of Main Street while Donal Whooley dealt with life in Abbey Street and Main Street. All then retired to The Community Hall where there was a Photographic Exhibition of Timoleague and its people going back in time. A fascinating archive now exists of places, people and events pertinent to Timoleague and is a treasure trove for the enquiring mind.

The Street Food Festival on Friday night is growing in popularity and the vast numbers who were on the streets in glorious sunshine ambling along and sampling the vast array of food on offer were not disappointed. “The Fogues” played on the street later and they had the crowd rocking in true Timoleague style.

The organising committee wish to thank all those who contributed in any way to the smooth running of the festival and the many community volunteers who always put their shoulder to the wheel when needed. Of course, the festival would not be a success without the support of the neighbouring parishes who always make Timoleague “a must visit place” in August.

Local Inter-Pro Involvement

Jack Deasy played at prop forward with Munster in their opening round of the interprovincial under 19 championship against Connacht at Woodleigh Park on Saturday last but his team were on the receiving end of a 41 - 26 defeat. Julie Cunningham was a squad member of the Munster under 18 girls team that had a 29-3 victory over Ulster at Virgin Media Park on Saturday last. Both have a number of other games to play in the series and are wished well.

Catwalk Extravaganza

While Timoleague Harvest Festival may be concluded, there is another very important event scheduled in conjunction with this year’s festival. A Catwalk Extravaganza will be held at Clonakilty Agri Conference Centre, Darrara (P85 AX52) on Friday August 28^th  A cheese and wine reception will begin proceedings at 7pm and there will be an exciting array of trade stalls featuring local fashion retailers. It will also include glam guidelines and insider style hacks. Tickets are available on line at eventbrite.com and more information is available at timoleague.net/timoleague-festival/ Proceeds from the event will go to Cancer Connect and Timoleague Community. So why not bring the curtain down officially of Timoleague Harvest Festival ’26 by attending this spectacular event where I am told there will be a few surprises!
