Paddy Keenan RIP:

The death occurred last week of renowned piper Paddy Keenan. Paddy, who had been unwell for some time died in his home in Co. Tipperary. He was a founding member of The Bothy Band which featured gifted musicians Matt Moloy, Donal Lunny, Micheal O’Domhnaill, Paddy Glackin, Tony Mc Mahon and Triona Ni Dhomhnaill. Paddy and his family lived in Timoleague for a time in the ‘80’s. He bought the Holland home, Station House. While in Timoleague he had an antique furniture shop in Clonakilty where he restored many a piece. His daughter Marjolaine attended Timoleague National School. Business wasn’t Paddy’s thing. He was happier playing the pipes and he toured extensively all over the world. Donal Lunny once described his friend Paddy as “The Jimmy Hendrix of the uillean pipes”.
