Correction
In last week’s Timoleague notes there was a lovely photograph taken by Martin Walsh of much needed remedial structural work being carried out on the Cistercian Abbey at Abbeymahon. In the caption, which was not written by me, it was incorrectly stated that it was a Franciscan Friary. Eagle eyed readers and there are many who know their history will be aware that it is of course a Cistercian Abbey, dating back to 1272. Homer of old nodded and human nature being what it is, people today occasionally still do likewise.
County Semi Final
The PJHC county semi- final against Kilshannig takes place on Sunday October 4th at 3pm in Coachford. The last time Argideen appeared in a county hurling semi -final was in the intermediate grade of 2012 against another North Cork club - Kilworth. The management and players need your support this Sunday in Coachford.
Tidy Towns
Cork County Council hosted an awards ceremony at County Hall on Monday night for communities who participated in this year’s Anti-Litter Challenge. Timoleague Tidy Towns was represented at the ceremony and our neighbours, Lislevane Community Association were also among the prize winners. Also present was local Timoleague councillor John Michael Foley.
An invitation to the National Tidy Towns Award Ceremony has been received by Timoleague Tidy Towns and this is an early indication that there way be good news in the offing in October.
Ibane Gaels:
The U13 hurlers travelled to Rathcormac last Sunday morning to host club Bride Rovers in a county hurling league final. They raced into a 10 point lead after 10 minutes before Bride reeled them in at half time. Ibane again led by 4 at the three quarter mark and were down 2 points before Bride pulled away in injury time to win 5.14 to 4.08. The team can hold their heads up high after a titanic battle with stand out performances from Danny Connolly, Zack Murphy, Jack Harte and James Deasy. Next weekend they will play Blarney in a football league final, enquire locally for exact details.
